Georgia-born singer/songwriter Jonah Kagen writes yearning, heartfelt songs rooted in acoustic folk but with a strong pop aesthetic. His self-released song "Broken" became a viral social media success and earned him a major-label deal with Arista, which released it as a single in 2021. After that, Kagen continued to bolster his presence with a string of popular folk-pop singles including the Matoma collaboration "Summer Feeling." He also released a pair of EPs, 2022's Georgia Got Colder and 2024's The Roads.
Growing up in Savannah, he began playing guitar at age six and later gravitated toward fingerstyle playing after watching videos by guitarist Andy McKee. While attending college at Cornell, Kagen began to foster a large online audience, especially on TikTok. His poignant indie folk song "Broken" became a viral hit, prompting Arista Records to sign him in 2021. "Broken" got an official release and he spent the next year building up his catalog with singles like "Moon" and the anthemic "Summer Feeling," a collaboration with Norwegian producer Matoma. "Broken" and "Barcelona" helped anchor his first EP, Georgia Got Colder, which was released at the end of 2022. Throughout 2023, Kagen added further singles to his catalog including the Lily Meola collaboration "Made Up My Mind" and the folky "The Roads." The latter song was the title track for his next EP which was released that December. ~ Timothy Monger
